Air bags are cushions built into a vehicle that help protect an occupant from hitting the vehicle interior or objects outside the vehicle. For optimal protection, air bags should be used in combination with seat belts. Proper seating position is also important and can be obtained in the vehicle owner’s manual.
There are two main types of air bags – frontal and side impact. These are designed to deploy in moderate and severe crashes.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that more than 25,000 lives have been saved by frontal airbags. Learn more information about air bags, visit NHTSA .
